The Ring (often called The Ring magazine or Ring magazine) is an American boxing magazine that was first published in 1922 as a boxing and wrestling magazine.
It was founded and published by future International Boxing Hall of Fame member Nat Fleischer and long-time prolific contributor Dan Daniel. As the sporting legitimacy of professional wrestling came more into question, The Ring shifted to becoming exclusively a boxing-oriented publication. Ring began publishing annual ratings of boxers in 1924.
The Ring refers to itself (and is referred to by others) as “The Bible of Boxing.” During the Fleischer years, the contents page or indicia of every issue carried the claim: “The Ring is a magazine which a man may take home with him. He may leave it on his library table safe in the knowledge that it does not contain one line of matter either in the text or the advertisements which would be offensive. The publisher of The Ring guards this reputation of his magazine jealously. It is entertaining and it is clean.”
In November 2024 Turki Alalshikh acquired the Ring Magazine, returning the publication from its two-year print hiatus. The magazine is now fully independent — but with the same calibre of brilliant writers — and focuses on every aspect in the sport of boxing. As well as re-starting the print publication, Alalshikh's long-term vision is to restore the legacy of The Ring rankings to its old mechanism with a fully-independent panel that lives up to the Ring Magazine's golden era. It will continue to raise the prestige of The Ring Titles, and plans are already underway to have a yearly extravagant awards ceremony to celebrate the very best in the boxing industry.
In addition to all of this, Alalshikh also intended to create a digitised collection of the entire archive, from the very first to the most current issue. This very web site contains that complete collection of the hundred or so years of The Ring magazine. All the issues have been digitally scanned and the text is fully-searchable, allowing you to either browse at leisure through the various years, or look for specific boxers, events or other subjects of interest.
